Home Page for Jim Vallino and Charlene Varnis

There are several things that I try to do on a regular basis for fun: bicycling, cross-country skiing, hiking/backpacking and playing volleyball.  As with many people, work gets in the way often and I do not get an opportunity to spend as much time on these fun activities as I would like.

The bug got me again.  Only one other person went with me this time.  We started in Anacortes, WA on June 13th. We treated this like a vacation and took our time and stopped to relax and/or do tourist things when we wanted. We rented a car to cut out 600 miles from Des Moines, IA to Toledo, OH. Charlene kept a travelogue of the journey. I hope sometime to get photos on this website.

During the summer of 1996 I took a cross-country bike tour.  Four friends and I rode from Florence, OR to the East Coast.  I finished my ride in Sandy Hook, NJ.  You can read a travelogue for the trip if you would like.  Or click on a section of the route we followed to see photos from all along the way.

If you are interested in my professional activities as a member of the Department of Software Engineering faculty at Rochester Institute of Technology you can look at my RIT web pages.  There you can also read about my PhD thesis work in augmented reality.
